Variable rate coil springs the top coils are closer together. This gives an increasing spring rate with the more weight put on them vs a constant rate coil where the rate is always the same. Main advantage is the first couple of inches retains a good ride and then stiffen with more weight. This is ideal for trucks not constantly loaded as can handle daily driving and loads.
