Can 1974 spring be used on 1973 Pinto? Difference seems to be rear length 27 vs 28 3/4 + capacity 588/74 vs 495/73
1974 - 1980 Ford Pinto, Bobcat rear leaf spring, 4 leaf
It seems the only difference is the front length is 1/4 longer on 74-80 (so only pushes the wheel back 1/4 inch which is OK for me) and rear length at 1 3/4 longer 74-80 vs 1973. I noticed the capacity is different at 495/73 vs 588/74. But what is the main spring eye to eye length for each year? The bodies are all the same on these cars. If the same, I dont mind the car sitting higher with increased arch in the higher capacity 74-80 spring. My concern is the rear valance being hit by the shackle. Thank you in advance, Dave.

The front measurement is only 1/4" so not real worried about that fitting. The biggest difference is on the rear as it's 1-3/4" longer for the 74 - 80 Pinto. I would think this would push the shackle too far back and hit against the frame of the car. Not 100% positive because we've never installed a 71 - 73 spring on the 74 - 80's model. As far as the loaded arch they're very similar as the 71 - 73 has a .68 loaded arch and the 74 - 80 has a 1" loaded arch so that's not enough to make up the 1-3/4" difference.
